Yesterday, a couple of #journalist from the @dallas_news, @startelegram, among others, noticed that @GovernorPerry had blocked them on his personal @twitter account. This set the blogs and twittersphere on fire(more so from those that were affected), but I think most of us standing on the outside were staring in at utter amazement.
It was like watching middle school children catching the kid in class they didn’t like doing something scandalous. They could not contain their glee and gossiped with each other on what had happened. In case you missed it, here is a run down on what happened:
Journalist #1: “Like, I just tried following @GovernorPerry on Twitter but he has blocked me. Has he blocked you?”
Journalist #2: “Totally! ”
Journalist #1: “OMG! Really?!?”
Journalist #2: “I know. WTF???
Journalist #1: “He is soo busted and I am soo writing about this.”
Journalist #2: “Me too . Do you have time for like a quote or something?”
Journalist #1: “You know I do. But first let me finish ordering some Proactiv. I cannot go another day without it.”
Journalist #2: “Wait, I have to run. Can you just text it to me?”
Journalist #1: “For sure. TTYL”
Really ground breaking stuff.
Do you remember how @GovernorPerry successfully marginalized newspapers during the primary and general election? When he told the newspapers he wasn’t going to take part in their editorial board endorsements because of their bias and still won in a landslide? You can bet these journalist remember because their actions are showing a sense of insecurity as @GovernorPerry makes them less relevant each day.
@TomBenning’s made this clear when he not only made a post about being blocked, but was also compelled to update his story 3 times during the day. Each update providing less information than the next. When have we ever seen anyone update a story as many times in a day as he has? Who knows but I hope next time these journalist refrain from this type of behavior when they are apart of a story. Especially, when there is little difference between @GovernorPerry blocking journalist on Twitter and not calling on one of them in a press conference.
[On a side note, being blocked doesn't even mean a person can't see his tweets. Just log out of twitter, click on this link www.twitter.com/governorperry and all of your problems are solved!]
