The phone is ringing but will Dewhurst answer?

November 03, 2011 By: MattSDowling Category: David Dewhurst, Debate, Ted Cruz, U.S. Senate

Ted Cruz and David Dewhurst have emerged as the top two candidates in the race for the US Senate, but have yet to go head to head in a debate. That’s why I was excited to see the Grassroots Texans Network offer to host at least two debates between these two men. Debates are important because candidates are forced to look voters in the eye while answering the hard questions. Cruz has answered this call by participating in nearly, if not all, of the US Senate forums.

However, Dewhurst has done the exact opposite and skipped 15 forums. That’s not a very good sign. As you know press releases and carefully scripted speeches are not enough. They don’t reveal where the candidate really stands and feels about an issue. I don’t want to hear from the campaign, I want to hear from the candidate.

Please join me in asking David Dewhurst to accept the Grassroots Texans Network invitation, so we can see these two candidates go head to head. The voters deserve it.

HOUSTON AND DALLAS GRASSROOTS GROUPS OFFER TO HOST PROPOSED CRUZ-DEWHURST DEBATES

DALLAS, TEXAS, November 3, 2011 – Local grassroots organizations in the Greater Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth areas have offered to host David Dewhurst and Ted Cruz as participants in a pair of Lincoln-Douglas style debates.  Cruz proposed a series of such debates in a public letter to Dewhurst released on Monday.

King Street Patriots of Houston has offered its 300-seat hall as a venue for one of the debates.  King Street Patriots founder and president Catherine Engelbrecht noted the importance of such debates in evaluating candidates, noting “Good governing requires the ability to clearly articulate points and powerfully defend positions.  These debates will allow voters to get a glimpse of the candidate’s potential prowess on the floor of the Senate, where they will be called upon to speak on behalf of all Texans.”  The group has proposed November 28 and December 5 as potential event dates, but has made clear that they are committed to working with the candidates’ schedules.

Houston talk radio host Michael Berry of 740 KTRH has offered to serve as a moderator for any debate in the Houston area.  Berry explains, “Texas primary voters deserve the benefit of hearing the candidates debate the issues. This is an important seat and will help determine the direction of the Senate. I hope Lieutenant Governor Dewhurst will agree to participate.”

In North Texas, a coalition comprising the Dallas Tea Party, Garland Tea Party, Mesquite-Sunnyvale Tea Party, NE Tarrant Tea Party and the Park Cities-Preston Hollow Tea Party have come together to make a similar offer to the candidates.  Julie McCarty, President of the NE Tarrant Tea Party, is hopeful that an event will be organized in North Texas.  “Citizens are taking a much closer look at the candidates these days,” McCarty notes, “Any candidate that expects our support is going to have to show up and make the case.”  The Dallas-Fort Worth coalition is proposing to hold the debate on the campus of the University of Texas at Dallas.  They are prepared to work with the candidates and the University to identify mutually-acceptable dates for a debate.

New Poll Shows Cruz and Dewhurst in a dead heat

October 17, 2011 By: MattSDowling Category: David Dewhurst, Ted Cruz, U.S. Senate

A new poll was released today by the Azimuth Polling Group showing Ted Cruz and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in a dead heat among GOP voters.  The poll, from how I understand it, was taken among active Republican voters and activist. This is a good sign for Cruz, but he still has to tackle Dewhurst’s strong name ID and his ability to self fund his campaign with a mountain of money.

Here is the breakdown:

Ted Cruz 32%
David Dewhurst 31%
Tom Leppert 8%
Lela Pittenger 5%
Elizabeth Ames Jones 4%
Glenn Addison 3%
Andre Castanuela 1%
Curtis Cleaver 0%
Undecided 14%

Ted Cruz: The Interview

August 03, 2011 By: MattSDowling Category: Ted Cruz, U.S. Senate

Over the weekend I had the opportunity to interview US Senate candidate, Ted Cruz, over the important issues facing our nation and state. This of course was during the middle of the debt ceiling vote, so you are able to catch some insight where Cruz stood during the debate. He later said he would have been a “No” vote on the final bill that passed through the senate and later signed by Obama. We also covered other hot topic such as Obamacare, abortion, and his plan to stimulate the economy.

You can tell that Cruz is very thorough in his answers and has great grasp on the issues. In my opinion he would be a great conservative senator to represent this great state. I am also happy to see him fully embrace social media and it just goes to show how it has reshaped modern campaigns. If you would like to learn more about Ted and his campaign you can visit his website at www.TedCruz.org.

Ted Cruz coming soon

Over the weekend I was able to sit down with US Senate candidate,  Ted Cruz, and interview him on how he stands on the important issues our country is facing. I will be posting the video as soon as it is edited down for time.

Stay tuned!

Ted Cruz takes the day

June 02, 2011 By: MattSDowling Category: Ted Cruz, U.S. Senate

Today, U.S. Senate candidate, Ted Cruz, shored up three major conservative endorsements. I don’t think I have ever seen so many major and diverse endorsements come in on one day. The first came from FeedomWorks PAC, a grassroots organization, that is behind the TEA Party movement. In a large state like Texas this endorsement will be a shot in the arm for his ground campaign. The second endorsement came from the Club for Growth, a pro-business organization, that can help Cruz’s fundraising efforts in Texas and nationally. The final endorsement came from, Erick Erickson, a popular conservative blogger and RedState.com founder. Online endorsements are important because online supporters are able to reach out to their readers in a fast and unfiltered manner. They also operate independently and don’t have to rely on campaigns to operate.

I can only imagine that the entire Ted Cruz campaign has been strutting around with smiles from ear to ear today. They were able to boost their grassroots, fundraising, and online efforts in a major way. If you don’t think Cruz was a major player in the Senate race, I can guarantee you are thinking it now.
