A new poll was released today by the Azimuth Polling Group showing Ted Cruz and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in a dead heat among GOP voters. The poll, from how I understand it, was taken among active Republican voters and activist. This is a good sign for Cruz, but he still has to tackle Dewhurst’s strong name ID and his ability to self fund his campaign with a mountain of money.
Here is the breakdown:
Ted Cruz 32%
David Dewhurst 31%
Tom Leppert 8%
Lela Pittenger 5%
Elizabeth Ames Jones 4%
Glenn Addison 3%
Andre Castanuela 1%
Curtis Cleaver 0%
Undecided 14%
Today, Dr. Donna Campbell announced for the Texas Senate to challenge Republican incumbent Sen. Wentworth. In her announcement she said she is looking to fill a void in leadership in SD-25. I remember Dr. Campbell well from her run for U.S. Congress against Lloyd Doggett in the last election cycle. She is a hard campaigner and won’t hold back. Sen. Wentworth has already faced some early embarrassment by sending a Christmas mail piece to voters in September… that was funded by taxpayers. Her new website can be found here http://donnacampbell.com/.

NEW BRAUNFELS, TX – Today Dr. Donna Campbell announced her intention to seek the Republican nomination for Texas Senate, District 25 in order to fill a void of conservative leadership. As a medical doctor, mother of four children, and devoted conservative activist, Donna Campbell brings a real-world perspective to the race.
In announcing her candidacy, Campbell stated, “Texas embodies the conservative dream in America. The voters of Senate District 25 deserve to have a Senator who accurately represents their conservative values. The call for limited government, fiscal responsibility, and unwavering family values cannot be ignored any longer.”
“Texans deserve better than lip service to conservatism,” Campbell continued.” “As a State Senator I will fight to keep Texas from looking more like Washington. Protecting innocent life and tackling the fiscal hurdle that is facing our state this next biennium are some of my priorities during the next legislative session.”
